RB Leipzig continued their impressive start to the Bundesliga campaign on Saturday afternoon, while FC Bayern München saw off the challenge of FC Augsburg.
1. FSV Mainz 05 bounced back to winning ways as goals from Yunus Malli (51′ pen) and Levin Oztunali (85′) secured a 2-0 victory over FC Ingolstadt 04, who saw Max Christiansen sent off in the 86th minute for a second bookable offence.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen rallied from behind as two late goals secured a 2-1 victory over managerless VfL Wolfsburg at Volkswagen Arena.
Interim Wolfsburg manager Valerien Ismael appeared to be heading for a narrow victory after Maximilian Arnold had fired them in front in the 37th minute.
However, Leverkusen rallied late on and drew level through Admir Mehmedi’s 79th-minute goal, before Tin Jedvaj popped up with the winner four minutes later.
At SGL Arena, meanwhile, FC Bayern München maintained their unbeaten start to the Bundesliga campaign after recording a 3-1 victory over FC Augsburg.
The Bavarian giants started the match on the front foot, racing into a three-goal lead thanks to goals from Robert Lewandowski (19, 48) and Arjen Robben (21).
The hosts managed to pull one back through Ja-Cheol Koo in the 67th minute, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation as Bayern comfortably saw out the remainder of the match.
SC Freiburg recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season after clinching a 3-1 victory over SV Werder Bremen at Weser-Stadion.
First-half goals from Maximilian Philipp (29′) and Vincenzo Grifo (39′ pen) put the visitors in the driving seat, before Santiago Garcia slotted home in the 67th minute to reduce the deficit.
However, any hopes of comeback were quickly quashed as Amir Abrashi slotted home in the 75th minute to put the result beyond doubt.
At Merck-Stadion am Bollenfalltor, early-season surprise package RB Leipzig picked up yet another win as Marcel Sabitzer’s second-half (57, 81) brace fired Die roten Bullen to a 2-0 triumph over SV Darmstadt 98.
