FC Twente failed to make up ground on the league leaders in the Dutch Eredivisie as they were held to a disappointing goalless draw by Roda JC on Friday night.
Roda, who came into the match sitting bottom of the league, put up a resolute rearguard to snuff any attacks from the hosts.
As expected, Twente started the game on the front foot with defender Peet Bijen going close with a header that sailed over the bar in the tenth minute.

Although they had the majority of the possession, the hosts could not create any clear-cut opportunities and were restricted to trying their luck from a long way from goal.
Roda keeper Benjamin van Leer was in fine form though and saved numerous long-range efforts from the home team's strikers, Bersant Celina and Yaw Yeboah.
The point means Twente stay in fifth position on the league table on 18 points, 10 behind leaders Feyenoord who now have a game in hand, while Roda moved off the foot of the table, one point ahead of Willem II.
