Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane doesn’t read too much into the jeers and whistles that were directed at Cristiano Ronaldo at the weekend.
Ronaldo had a poor game by his standards, taking 11 shots at goal without success during the 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao. This resulted in groups of Los Blancos fans vocalising their displeasure.
However, Zidane noted that it happened to him as well when he was a playing at the Santiago Bernabeu, and isn’t concerned about Ronaldo’s lack of form.
“I don’t understand the jeers for Ronaldo but at the same time, I look at it and note that it even happened to me,” Zidane told a press conference.
“The fans here demand a lot from the players and the Bernabeu is a special place to play football. He knows that and doesn’t care if there are occasional boos. The important thing is to continue fighting.
“He always prefers to score two or three goals in a game but I’m not worried because I know that it will happen for him soon. He isn’t making the most of his chances at the moment but with composure, he will soon hit the back of the net.”
