English Premier League excites Subotic

Neven Subotic is eyeing a move to the Premier League as he closes in on a return to full fitness following surgery to a rib that was affecting his heart.

The 27-year-old Serbia international, who has played almost 200 times for Borussia Dortmund since 2008, was due to join Middlesbrough this season but the move was cancelled after fears over his health.

A former Mainz centre-back, with his roots in the United States where he grew up, Subotic was a key figure in Jurgen Klopp's Bundesliga-winning sides in 2011 and 2012.

Two successive serious injuries curtailed his progression, but now as he nears a comeback, the talented defender has been tipped to return to his best.

Subotic's agent, Frieder Gamm, told Goal: "Subotic has been back in training since August and step-by-step he increases the training intensity.

"There seems to be no pain left from the surgery and he can do the recommended training without any problems.

"Neven knows about his ability to come back to his former level after injuries. That gives him security and keeps him relaxed not to do too much to come back.

"Everybody who knows him, knows that Neven is never satisfied until he reaches 100 per cent. He does and gives everything to come back in best condition. He did this before after his knee surgery."

He added: "Neven wants to play. And he wants to be part of the team, a big part of the team, if this is possible in Dortmund – then why not? Unfortunately, the facts speak a different language.

"He always said he admired the way football is played in the Premier League, with three games a week and the constant fight on the pitch. But he also likes the fact that the players do not dive so easily.

"Everything was clear [with the transfer from Middlesbrough to Dortmund]. But then we got the final report of a specialised professor and decided to fix that first in order to come back stronger."
