Inter Milan midfielder Gary Medel is set to miss three games after catching Atalanta’s Jasmin Kurtic with a stray elbow at the weekend.
The incident, that occurred in the 39th minute of Inter’s 2-1 defeat, was not spotted during the game, but Medel has been handed a three-game retrospective suspension.
A statement read that the Serie A “acquired and examined TV images” and “considered it clear from these images that Medel, with the ball not in playable distance, struck Kurtic violently to the face with his left arm, with a sudden and voluntary gesture.”
The ban means Medel will be unavailable for Inter’s games against Torino, Sampdoria, and Crotone.
Meanwhile, Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini received a one-match touchline ban after directing an insult at referee Daniele Doveri.
