The Qatar World Cup has claimed another fatality after a construction worker died while working on the Al Wakrah Stadium, the organising committee has confirmed.
The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SCDL), who are responsible for the organisation of the finals, released a statement but without revealing the name of the worker or giving any information on the incident itself.
The statement read: "It is with deep regret we announce a work-related fatality on one of our projects.
"Following an incident on Al Wakrah Stadium on Saturday morning, a full investigation is underway to determine the factors which contributed to the death of one of our workers.
"The relevant authorities were immediately informed and the family of the deceased have been notified. We offer them all the necessary support they may need at such a difficult time."
While "officially" this is the first fatality at one of Qatar's World Cup construction sites, there have been two other fatalities.
A painter suffered a cardiac arrest while in the canteen of the Khalifa International Stadium site last October, while a 55-year-old vehicle driver suffered the same fate, while at his accommodation in January.
