Ancelotti: Too soon for Conte to win EPL title

Former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti feels it would be unreasonable to expect Antonio Conte to win the Premier League title in his first season at the Stamford Bridge helm.

Bayern head coach Ancelotti, who enjoyed a fairly successful stint with the Blues between 2009 and 2011, has urged the London club’s fans to show some patience as his fellow countryman aims to remould his new team.

While he doesn't believe the Premier League title is necessarily within reach this season, he has backed Conte to make a success of his time at Stamford Bridge.

When asked if he thought Conte would be successful at Chelsea, Ancelotti told the Daily Mail: "I think it depends on what is the goal of the club.

"If the goal of the club is to win the Premier League, it will be difficult.

"But if the goal of the club is to build a new group, to build a new idea of football, to build a new strategy, I think that Conte has a lot of opportunities to do well at this club."

He added: "Conte was my captain at Juventus. He was so professional and I think he is the same as a manager.

"I don't know him really well as a manager but I know his character and his personality and he is really focused on his job and I'm sure in the end he's going to do a good job at Chelsea."
