Full Report

After a couple of wayward efforts from Granada, Gijon winger Burgui forced a save out of Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa when his left-footed effort was poked away from the bottom right corner.

The most contentious moment of the first half came in the 40th minute, when Burgui pounced on a defensive slip, with the defender hauling him down in his haste to recover the ball. But the referee waved the protest away.

Granada had their first chance of the second half in the 50th minute when Andreas Pereira, standings over a deep free kick, floated a delicious cross into the box that defender Rúben Vezo met with a thumping header that needed to be tipped away from goal by an alert Pichu Cuéllar.

Sporting really should have won it in the final moment when a ball into the box was headed back across goal, but with three players lined up, they each seemed to confuse the other, and the ball evaded all of them before bouncing out, the final act of the game.

Sociedad trounce Deportivo

Elsewhere in Spain, Real Sociedad returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Deportivo Alavés at Estadio Municipal de Anoeta in San Sebastián.

Xabi Prieto opened the scoring after 22 minutes, but had to wait until the 57th minute for Willian José to add a second, before Carlos Vela made the points secure in the 87th minute.
