Big-money summer signing Lucas Perez admits he expected a more prominent role for Arsenal in the opening stages of the season.
Arsenal splashed out around £17million to sign Perez from Deportivo La Coruna during the summer, yet the Spanish striker has been limited to just 64 minutes of Premier League action.
The form of Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott has kept Perez confined to the fringes, albeit he did open his Arsenal account in the League Cup.
However, with Arsene Wenger’s men in the midst of a seven-game winning streak, Perez realises that he needs to be patient for his opportunity.
“When I first arrived here I expected to have more of a starring role,” he told Spanish radio station Onda Cero.
“The team-mates that are playing in my position are doing a great job. We have won seven games in a row and, at the end of the day, the coach wants what is best for the team.
“I had hoped to have more playing time, but what I have to do now is make the most of the opportunities I get.”
