Full report

Cambodia began the game strongly, but it was Laos who had the first sight of goal in the third minute when a Maitee cross flashed across the face of goal.

Laos then began to come more into the game, with Moukda Souksavath’s long throws causing panic in the Cambodia defence.

Laos continued to dominate possession but failed to create any clear-cut chances, Syvilay almost connecting with a ball played across the Cambodia goal on 22 minutes.

Cambodia improved as the half went on, but like the visitors they were let down by the final ball when in threatening positions.

It looked like things would go into the break level but the hosts won a penalty on 42 minutes when Udom was tripped in the box. He then picked himself up and slotted the penalty into the net as Soukthavy Soundala dived the wrong way.

Soukthavy kept his side in the game with a double save early in the second period, palming away a cross and the follow up header in quick succession.

It was to prove crucial just minutes later as Moukda volleyed in the equaliser for Laos on 52 minutes at the second attempt after latching onto a short corner when it was knocked into the box.

The goal opened the game up as both teams began to push forward in search of a winner, Cambodia bringing on star striker Chan Vathanaka.

The hosts then grabbed a decisive second goal with nine minutes left after some great work down the right-hand side from Chhin Chhoeun.

Chhin played a one-two with Tith Dina on the edge of the box and shot under the advancing goalkeeper, the ball bouncing into the net off Soukthavy’s foot to give Cambodia a crucial win.
