Borussia Dortmund are taking delight in the progress being made by Mario Gotze during his first few months back at the club since re-signing from FC Bayern München.
The 24-year-old has featured in just three Bundesliga matches and one Champions League tie since he returned, but Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke says he is happy with what he is seeing.
Great things were expected from the Germany international when he joined Bayern ahead of the 2013/14 campaign.
However, he didn't quite seem to live up to expectations during his time with the Bavarians, regularly drfiting in and out of the starting XI at the Allianz Arena.
His return to the Black and Yellows has widely been heralded as a chance for the player to revitalise his career, and Watzke believes signs are evident he is on the path to doing just that.
He told kicker: "Mario shows more every week. We are delighted with his development. I have the impression that he's significantly sharper now."
So far in his limited time on the pitch for the Thomas Tuchel-coached outfit, Gotze has managed one goal but no assists.
It's said the player's lack of playing time is because the club are still working hard to improve his level of fitness. A plus point is that the Memmingen-born star completed both matches for Germany in their last two World Cup qualifying victories.
