Bundesliga newcomers RB Leipzig continued their impressive start to the season with a 2-1 win over FC Augsburg at the Red Bull Arena on Friday.
Die Bullen got off to a good start when Emil Forsberg gave them an 11th-minute lead, but they were pegged back by Ji Dong-Won’s equaliser just three minutes later.
However, Yussuf Poulsen restored the lead for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side early in the second half as they maintained their unbeaten start to the new campaign.
The hosts would break the deadlock with their first attack on 11 minutes when Marcel Sabitzer drew a good save out of Marwin Hitz with his strike from outside the area, but the keeper parried the ball into the path of Forsberg, who finished from a narrow angle on the left.
However, their lead lasted just three minutes as Ji received the ball on the right after Leipzig lost possession and he cut inside before firing an unstoppable shot into the far top corner of the goal.
Timo Werner went close to restoring the Saxony club’s lead on 25 minutes with a header from six yards out that came back off the crossbar, while Forsberg failed to beat the visiting keeper from inside the box on the left in the closing stages of the first half.
Marwin Hitz was called into action again early in the second half to keep out two efforts in quick succession from Sabitzer, but Poulsen beat him on 52 minutes with a shot from close range after being played in on goal by Sabitzer.
The home team went in search of more goals as the second half progressed but Hitz stood firm to deny Werner, Bernardo, Naby Keita and Poulsen.
