FC Bayern München winger Franck Ribery’s actions have been called into question by teammate Mats Hummels, following the Bavarian giants’ 1-0 victory over Hamburger SV.
The 33-year-old supplied the final ball for Joshua Kimmich’s 88th-minute winner to ensure that Carlo Ancelotti’s men extended their unbeaten start in the Bundesliga.
However, the Frenchman’s cameo appearance was marred by his altercation with Hamburg midfielder Nicolai Muller.
Shortly after coming on in the 60th minute, Ribery was seen pinching Muller’s cheek in the clear view of the referee, who immediately booked him, and Hummels has called the midfielder’s actions into question.
“It’s always questionable when you raise your hands to the face,” he told reporters.
“If they are both friends, one might say he was only being nice — but I don’t know how well they know each other.”
Despite Hamburg’s Muller revealing that ‘such skirmishes are part and parcel of the game’, Ribery will have to start treading lightly or face becoming a target for referees – following a similar incident against Borussia Dortmund in a German Super Cup clash.
