Mario Gotze says that his return to Signal Park was an emotional one, following Borussia Dortmund's 3-1 victory against Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Friday night.
Goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Lukasz Piszczek and Raphael Guerreiro saw Thomas Tuchel's charges equal a club-record of 24-games unbeaten at home.
Playmaker Gotze made his first start at Signal Park for Dortmund since returning from arch-rivals Bayern Munich on a four-year contract, and admitted that Freiburg made them sweat for the victory.
"It was a lot of fun, but it was also a lot of hard work. Some situations were rather hectic from our perspective," he told the Bundesliga's official website.
"We’ve got a really good blend of players in the squad. You can see that in our performances. Making my return tonight for the first time in Dortmund was a really special moment.
"It was very emotional. It was like how I thought it would be. It was a great feeling to come back into the team, and the reaction I got when I came off was really positive. I’m really happy as it was a great moment for me," he concluded.
