Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere claims Ligue 1 rivals Lyon were interested in signing striker Mario Balotelli in the recently concluded transfer window.
Following his troubled time at Liverpool, the former Manchester City star joined Nice on a free transfer despite reported interest from clubs in the Champions League.
The Italian scored two goals on debut for the French side in their Ligue 1 encounter with Marseille and started their Europa League clash with Schalke a week later, where they suffered a 1–0 defeat.
Rivere had no issues with Lyon counterpart Jean-Michel Aulas trying to sign the controversial footballer, saying that it's part of the game.
"Yes, Jean-Michel Aulas has attempted to recruit Balotelli," the 59-year-old told L'Equipe.
"I learned the day before but it's okay, it's part of the game.
"Signings like Younes Belhanda and Balotelli, you want to do in June but it is not affordable. So you prepare, you work and you try to finish at the end."
