Costa set for spell on sidelines

FC Bayern München have revealed winger Douglas Costa is facing a spell on the treatment table after suffering a thigh injury against Ingolstadt on Saturday.

The 26-year-old Brazil international only recently returned to the first-team fold after an injury problem, and is now facing another spell on the sidelines after his latest setback.

Bayern will be hoping Costa’s absence won’t be keenly felt, especially with Arjen Robben seemingly back to full fitness following some injury problems of his own.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “FC Bayern will be without Douglas Costa for the time being.

“The Brazilian suffered a muscle injury in his right thigh during a challenge in the Bundesliga match against Ingolstadt on Saturday.

“Costa was brought on at half-time against FCI but was himself substituted in the 83rd minute because of this injury, which was then examined by club doctor Dr. Volker Braun.”

Costa joined the Bavarians on a five-year deal from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2015, and has gone on to make 46 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven times and providing 19 assists.
