Former Tottenham Hotspur captain Ledley King has praised manager Mauricio Pochettino for his ruthless way of building a squad capable of playing his style of football.
Spurs performed above expectations last season as they slipped out of the title chase with Leicester City in the dying stages of the campaign, but secured Champions League football by finishing in third place nonetheless.
King feels the way the Argentine built his squad by simply selling off fan favorites and some of the club's highest paid players, helped foster a togetherness in the squad – which culminated in their impressive performances.
"The manager has installed a spirit in the team. They're no pushovers," he told talkSPORT. "I think the manager has had a big part to play in that.
"The first thing the manager did was try to decide who he wanted moving forward. He has got rid of some of the players that didn't suit the system and bought in players he knows will suit the system.
"I think that is why it is working so well."
