Bayer 04 Leverkusen winger Karim Bellarabi is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after picking up a groin injury against Hamburger SV at the weekend.
The 26-year-old has to be substituted just three minutes into Saturday's clash, with the club's medical staff subsequently confirming the player had torn his groin muscle.
And, after undergoing further scans this week, it has been revealed that Bellarabi will have to go under the knife to remedy the problem.
Leverkusen manager Roger Schmidt said: "Karim Bellarabi will be out for a couple of months and will undergo an operation in Basel tomorrow."
The Germany international was ever-present for Leverkusen last season, making 48 appearances in all competitions.
He bagged 11 goals and provided 14 assists as the Bundesliga outfit secured a third-place finish.
