Sevilla forward Franco Vazquez says Juventus will be major contenders for the UEFA Champions League crown this season, ahead of their Group H opener.
Vazquez joined the Europa League champions during the off-season and is well aware of the attacking threat Juve possess, after starring with former club Palermo alongside Paulo Dybala and witnessing their newest acquisition Gonzalo Higuain break league records last term.
The Italy international feels Higuain is the best striker in the world after scoring 36 league goals in 35 games and defended his price tag, claiming the Bianconeri can now compete with any team in Europe.
"It's early to say if they're favorites to win the Champions League," Vazquez told Gazzetta dello Sport. "They definitely did their transfer campaign with that goal though, and they'll want to start strongly to send a signal to their opponents.
"The €90m for Higuain? It's right, he's the best number 9 in the world. Those who score are expensive.
"Does Higuain have to prove himself in Europe? Yes, that could be the case. And maybe that's why he left Napoli to go to a team which is pushing hard for the Champions League.
"Let's say the same goes for Juve: they both need European consecration."
