Simeone not thinking further than PSV clash

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone says they will give PSV the respect they deserve and will not think of any targets beyond their Champions League opener.

Since reaching the final stage of the competition, losing out on penalties to fierce rivals Real Madrid, Atleti have significantly strengthened their playing squad with the additions of striker Kevin Gameiro and playmaker Nicolas Gaitan.

Their summer spending spree of 80 million euro will no doubt strike fear into their Dutch opposition, who they narrowly beat in the last 16 of the competition last season – albeit on penalties after it ended goalless across two legs.

"We are capable of winning tomorrow's game," he told reporters. "To think any further would not be humble.

"That time it was the last 16, a knockout game, now there are points at play and that changes things.

"This is a nice stadium to play in, a fantastic atmosphere, a good place to begin," the Argentine added when asked about how different the clash will be. "Six months ago goals were important, tomorrow it will be the points.

"PSV are a good team, especially on the break. They played two different ways last season."
