Crystal Palace have confirmed that Loic Remy has returned to Chelsea to receive treatment for a thigh injury.
The 29-year-old striker had only recently joined the Eagles on loan and had yet to feature for them in the Premier League, but this latest setback means he will be sidelined for a number of weeks.
Manager Alan Pardew had high hopes for the France international, who has been dogged by injuries in the last few seasons.
He will now undergo rehabilitation at Chelsea before a return can be considered.
A statement on the official Crystal Palace website read: "The injury is expected to keep him out for a number of weeks but he will be continually assessed during his rehabilitation. The club’s medical team are liaising with their counterparts at Chelsea to monitor his progress."
Pardew added: "It is obviously a blow for the player and for us as a squad, he has just joined us and we were hoping he would play a big part in the team moving forward.
"He was looking great in training and this was an innocuous injury which can sometimes happen unfortunately."
