Lazio head coach Stefano Pioli is convinced his side are suffering from some poor luck after their 1-0 defeat to Empoli at Stadio Carlo Castellani on Sunday.
The Aquile were unable to recover after Lorenzo Tonelli's fifth-minute goal resigned them to their fourth defeat in their last five Serie A matches, sending them down to 10th in the standings.
"The team played, worked hard and did not deserve to lose," Pioli told Sky Sport Italia. "This is a delicate moment, as we don't get what we deserve.
"The results are painful right now, but the performances in recent games are not. I saw a hungry Lazio that fought and tried to take the initiative.
"Clearly, results also change your opinion of a team. If we had drawn, the verdict would've been better. I think the disallowed goals were such obvious incidents that I needn't say anything. They changed the result.
"Today we allowed so few chances and Empoli scored on the only genuine opportunity. We had many chances, but didn't take them.
"In this situation a coach has to work, motivate and choose the best way to get out of it. I believe in our work as a team and saw positive things today.
"There's a lot of disappointment, the results are negative and the table proves it, but we certainly want to emerge from this delicate moment."
