On Tuesday, John Terry revealed that former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson tried to sign him as a teenager before he joined Chelsea. The Blues skipper has now given more insight into the meeting…
A 14-year-old Terry, then a holding midfielder, met with Ferguson when United had just won back-to-back league titles and the Red Devils boss looked to lure the future England captain to Old Trafford.
“Man United also approached me,” Terry told The Observer. I met Alex Ferguson – great to meet. During the school holidays I would go up to Manchester and train with their boys for two weeks, play a few games and come home.”
He added: “I was Man United growing up. You know what it’s like when you’re a boy, you want to support the team that’s winning everything. And my dad and granddad were Man United fans.”
It appears that Ferguson had a big impact on Terry, with the Chelsea defender taking to Instagram to state his appreciation for the Scot.
Posing alongside United’s boss with his parents, Terry wrote: “Who would have thought I would go onto win four Premier Leagues and five FA Cups. I have so much respect for Sir Alex Ferguson and will never forget what he done for me and my family.”
