Stoke City and England goalkeeper Jack Butland has road to recovery has taken yet another detour as he prepares to go under the knife on an ankle problem.
Butland will undergo an operation on an ankle injury that has kept him out of England and club duty since the latter part of last season.
The former Birmingham shot-stopper made the following statement via his official Twitter account; "I'll be having a minor operation on Monday.
"Rather than push through and risk damaging further, I'd like to have it sorted for good and be back to the levels I was at last year."
Manager Mark Hughes has acted accordingly by roping in Derby County's Lee Grant on loan on transfer deadline day to act as cover for 40-year-old Shay Given – who has stepped in during the England international's absence.
