Former Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kante revealed that Jose Mourinho tried to convince him to join Manchester United, but that his heart was set on Chelsea.
The 25-year-old made the move from the King Power Stadium to Stamford Bridge in July, having been a key member of the Foxes’ surprise title-winning team last season.
Since making the move to Chelsea, Kante has played every minute of every match under manager Antonio Conte, whose side have moved up to second place on the Premier League standings with nine points, trailing Manchester City only on goal difference.
Prior to his move to the Blues, the combative midfielder was widely linked with a move to the Red Devils but, despite their manager’s attempts to convince the Frenchman, he felt that Chelsea would be a better fit.
“It was amazing to have Mourinho call me, even though I’d been warned before how he would appeal to me,” Kante told reporters.
“I listened to his arguments about why I should move to United, but at that time I was hesitant between staying at Leicester or leaving for Chelsea.
“My discussions with them were already well underway. But when I spoke, I had a good feeling with Conte.”
