Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos has welcomed the news of midfielder Isco's decision to stay and fight for place in Zinedine Zidane's team this season.

The 24-year-old was linked with a move away from the club in the final weeks of the transfer deadline, with the likes of English Premier League sides Tottenham and Arsenal joining La Liga outfit Malaga in expressing an interest in acquiring his services.

However, the Spain international ultimately decided to stay and fight for a first-team place.

"Isco staying at Real Madrid is great news and makes me happy," Ramos said. "We all know what type of player he is, what he is capable of, and he brings a lot to the team."

Isco was heavily involved in the first team last season, scoring five times and providing 12 assists in 47 appearances in all competitions.
