How transfer Deadline Day unfolded

A typically busy final day of the summer transfer window has come to a close with Joe Hart, Jack Wilshere and David Luiz all securing surprise moves.

Here we look at the key deals and how they unfolded (all times BST)…

9am – The France national team’s official Twitter account reveals Moussa Sissoko had been given permission to leave their Clairefontaine training base to complete a transfer to an unnamed club.

9.55am – Newcastle slap a £30million price tag on Sissoko after it emerges they rejected a £16million offer from Tottenham on Tuesday night.

11.29am – Jack Wilshere was spending the morning deciding between season-long loan deals at Crystal Palace or Bournemouth.

11.53am – Leicester announce a club-record fee for Sporting striker Islam Slimani had been agreed.

12.02pm – Joe Hart’s season-long loan at Torino is confirmed with the England goalkeeper telling the Serie A club’s website: “Suddenly my career has taken a turn. It was a sign. Torino’s offer came in the right moment, in the right manner. I am very excited to test myself in an important and beautiful league.”


1:02pm – Exactly an hour later Manchester City confirm another departure, this time striker Wilfried Bony who joins Stoke on loan for the rest of the season.

2:14pm – Samir Nasri’s season-long loan agreement with Spanish side Sevilla continues the exodus from the Etihad Stadium.

3:40pm – Sunderland break their transfer record to sign Didier Ndong from Lorient for £13.6million.

4:01pm – Burnley sign Derby midfielder Jeff Hendrick for a club-record fee.

4:36pm – Stoke continue their recruitment drive by bringing in Holland defender Bruno Martins Indi on a season-long loan from Porto.

4:50pm – Chelsea splash out on former Bolton defender Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina.

5.02pm – Manchester City let a fourth player depart as defender Eliaquim Mangala joins Valencia on a season-long loan.

5.52pm – One in, one out for Chelsea with winger Juan Cuadrado rejoining Juventus on a rare three-year loan deal.

6.05pm – Everton enter the race for Sissoko after Tottenham’s earlier interest ended.

6.20pm – Tottenham sign Georges-Kevin Nkoudou from Marseille.

6.35pm – David Luiz’s return to Stamford Bridge moves a step closer as Chelsea and PSG reach an agreement.

8.40pm – Mario Balotelli’s miserable spell at Liverpool ends when he joins Nice.

8.50pm – West Ham add a World Cup winner to their ranks in the form of ex-Real Madrid and Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa.

9.14pm – Leicester complete the signing of Algeria striker Slimani.

9.31pm – Arsenal midfielder Wilshere opts for Bournemouth over Palace and signs a season-long loan deal.

10.04pm – Another departure from Manchester City as Sunderland bolster their defence with the loan signing of Jason Denayer.

10.55pm – Everton add to their squad with the loan arrival of West Ham striker Enner Valencia.

11pm – In a dramatic turn of events Sissoko announces he has signed a five-year deal at Tottenham, after they met Newcastle’s asking price and beat off competition from Everton, via his own Twitter.

11.12pm – Chelsea confirm Luiz has returned on a three-year deal.

11.14pm – Wales striker Hal Robson-Kanu ends his search for a new club by signing a two-year deal at West Brom.

11.39pm – Tottenham announce the capture of Newcastle midfielder Sissoko to cap off a busy day.
