Leganes win on La Liga debut

It was a night of the underdogs in Spain as Las Palmas overcame Valencia and Leganes celebrated their first-ever La Liga match with a remarkable victory away to Celta de Vigo on Monday.

Visitors Las Palmas scored four unlikely goals to nullify Valencia forward Santi Mina’s brace as they notched up a remarkable victory over a Los Che side that will be bitterly disappointed with the result.

Marko Livaja, Jonathan Viera and Kevin-Prince Boateng all found the back of the net to take Los Amarillos from a goal down to two goals up within 25 minutes.

The hosts’ young winger brought their deficit back down to a single goal for the majority of the match, but Livaja popped up for his second in the closing stages of the contest to put the result beyond doubt.

At Estaio Balaidos, Celta de Vigo were stunned by Leganes who managed to turn their significantly inferior possession into superior goal opportunities.

The La Liga debutants’ Victor Diaz found the back of the net on 75 minutes with one of his team’s remarkable 15 attempts on target.

The hosts struggled to match their opponents’ intensity throughout the match and can only blame themselves for the loss.
