Atletico Madrid have announced that Ghanaian midfielder Bernard Mensah will return to Vitoria Guimaraes on loan this season.
The 21-year-old joined the La Liga side from the Portuguese Primeira League team in 2015 but was shipped out on loan to Getafe.
He will now return to his former club, with Los Rojiblancos keen on the player securing first team action this term – something that was not a guaranteed under Diego Simeone.
A statement from the club read: "Atletico de Madrid has reached an agreement with Vitoria de Guimaraes for the loan of Bernard Mensah to the Portuguese team for a season, until June of 2017.
"Now, he will seek to continue with minutes that will allow him to continue with his projection in a stage in which we wish him good luck and much success."
Mensah, who made just eight substitute appearances last season, still has five years remaining on his Atletico contract.
