Chelsea Football Club have announced that they will allow Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel to represent his country at the upcoming 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
The 29-year-old holding midfielder has not joined his club team-mates for their pre-season tour of the United States, the club instead confirming that he will be Rio-bound for the Olympics which kick off in less than two weeks' time.
"John Mikel Obi has not travelled. He is Olympics-bound with Nigeria," the west London club stated on their official website.
Meanwhile, according to the Goal, defender Kenneth Omeruo will not be taking part joining Mikel in Brazil.
He is also not part of club's pre-season tour as he is expected to join Turkey club Besiktas on a loan deal later this week.
