Benfica hitman Jonas has been approached by the La Liga champions in an effort to bolster their attacking resources, the player's agent has revealed.
The 32-year-old Brazilian delivered a remarkable 2015/16 performance – scoring 32 goals in 34 matches and helping the Lisbon club to their 35th Portuguese championship trophy.
His exploits have attracted the attention of the Catalan club, who have initiated contact with the player.
"Someone dealing on behalf of Barcelona approached us at the end of last season," Jonas' agent Tiago Goncalves told Globoesporte.
"We were obviously quite flattered, because it was recognition that Jonas had a spectacular season," he continued.
"When a club are interested in signing someone, they have to act quickly because negotiations take time to reach their conclusion. A transfer could be difficult because there has not been any contact since the initial approach.
"I want to make it clear that Jonas is very happy at Benfica and feels beloved here. Barcelona's approach is a reward for what he did at Benfica. But a transfer would only be an option if both Benfica and Jonas are happy with it."
22-year-old Atletico Madrid striker Luciano Valetto has reportedly also been identified as potential backup for Barca's formidable forward trio of Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
