The transfer window is hotting up and we’ve rounded up and rated the latest offerings from the rumour mill…
Gonzalo Higuain to Juventus
Sky Sports Italia reports that Juventus have agreed to pay Gonzalo Higuain’s €94.7 million release clause, paving the way for the biggest transfer in Serie A history.
The Napoli striker, who equalled the Serie A record for the most goals scored in a top-flight campaign with 36 last season, will join the Italian champions on a four-year deal.
Several teams – including Arsenal – were interested in Higuain, but Juventus have made the decisive move.
Rumour rating: 8/10. This appears to be pretty solid, with reports claiming that Higuain has already completed his Juve medical. The Serie A champs are eager to find a replacement for Paul Pogba, who is expected to leave for Manchester United, and are willing to spend big.
Riyad Mahrez to Arsenal
Eurosport France are reporting that star Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez has agreed to join Arsenal as part of a €50m deal.
Mahrez, who was voted PFA Player of the Year last season, is ready to leave King Power Stadium, having been “seduced” by the Gunners.
Mahrez’s agent Kamel Bengougam was also seen at Friday night’s game between Arsenal and Lens.
Rumour rating: 7/10. We’re not sure if there’s fire, but there’s certainly some smoke. Despite Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri claiming Mahrez wished to stay, his manager being present at an Arsenal game is highly suspicious. Arsenal need strikers more than they need more creative midfielders, but Mahrez would certainly be a handy addition, and Wenger said on Saturday that if Arsenal “find the right candidates we will spend big money”.
Alvaro Morata to Chelsea
Despite already having two offers turned down, Chelsea are said to be considering a third bid for Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata.
The Express claims the Blues are ready to put a massive £67m on the table for the Spain international, with manager Antonio Conte keen to lift his new club back into the Champions League and Premier League title reckoning.
Although Real only recently resigned the 23-year-old, they would be willing to sell if the price is right.
Rumour rating: 3/10. Nothing really solid on this deal, and it’s clear that Real aren’t that keen to get rid of him, having already rejected two bids. Morata himself also seems very happy to be back in Madrid, and has spoken of his desire to get back to work with the team.
Moussa Sissoko to Real Madrid
The Newcastle Chronicle reports that Arsenal are not the only club interested in French midfielder Moussa Sissoko.
The Gunners now face a battle for Sissoko’s signature with Real Madrid reportedly making a move to acquire him.
The report suggest Real could offer a player in exchange for the 26-year-old, as the £35m price tag is said to be a sticking point.
Rumour rating: 5/10. There’s no doubt that Sissoko is keen to leave relegated Newcastle, particularly after the departure of team-mate Georginio Wijnaldum, but there are multiple clubs looking for his signature, including Juventus and Everton. Sissoko is leaving, but it’s not quite clear where he’s heading yet – though Real would certainly be able to make a very attractive offer.
