Rumour ratings: Chelsea preparing Lukaku bid, United set sights on Rodriguez

The transfer window is hotting up and we’ve rounded up and rated the latest offerings from the rumour mill…

Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea

The Daily Express claims Chelsea are preparing a £50m bid to re-sign Romelu Lukaku.

With Lukaku desperate to play Champions League football, he has been strongly linked with a move away from the Toffees.

The Belgian international could be an adequate replacement for Diego Costa if he leaves this summer, and the Blues are said to be leading the race for Lukaku’s signature – despite interest from Arsenal as well.

Rumour rating: 5/10. Everton don’t appear too keen to get rid of Lukaku, and have reportedly raised their asking price in a bid to scare off potential suitors – some say they are now asking as much as £75m. It’s unlikely teams will cough up that much for the player, but reports suggest a much lower bid is indeed being considered.

Max Meyer to Liverpool

Max Meyer

A report from Bild in Germany suggests Jurgen Klopp is looking homeward and inquiring about Schalke 04 midfielder Max Meyer.

Despite recently acquiring Sadio Mane from Southampton and being on the verge of signing Newcastle’s Georginio Wijnaldum, the Reds are still in the hunt for attacking midfielders, and 20-year-old Meyer appears to fit the bill.

Klopp is reportedly set to bid £25m for the exciting talent, who scored five goals and registered six assists in 32 Bundesliga appearances for Schalke last season.

Rumour rating: 3/10. Another midfielder? The report seems confident, but with Mane and Wijnaldum around, the need for Meyer would hardly be urgent. And it remains to be seen if Schalke will be willing to part with another top player, with Leroy Sane reportedly heading to Manchester City.

James Rodriguez to Manchester United

James Rodriguez

El Confidencial reports that Manchester United are preparing a £54m bid to acquire James Rodriguez from Real Madrid.

The Colombian midfielder is said to be unhappy at Real after making only 17 starts last season.

United have already made three high-profile signings and appear on the verge of a fourth if the Paul Pogba rumours are true, but the coffers at Old Trafford aren’t thought to be empty yet.

Rumour rating: 6/10. Rodriguez has been quoted as saying that he wants to make it work in Madrid, but reports suggest his agent has already sat down with United chief Ed Woodward. Perhaps he has had a change of heart.

Gabriel Jesus to Manchester City

Gabriel Jesus

Speculation is rife that the Citizens have landed Brazilian star Gabriel Jesus.

Reports suggest a fee of £20m, with a loan move back to Palmeiras until January 2017 also likely to be part of the deal.

City fan Shane Burns landed a bit of scoop by questioning Txiki Begiristain about the move at the airport, with the Manchester City sporting director replying: “He’s coming, don’t worry”.

Rumour rating: 8/10. With Begiristain all but confirming the transfer, this deal looks very likely to go through.
