New FC Schalke 04 defender Naldo is looking forward to the challenge of being involved at the underachieving Bundesliga side.
The veteran defender made a surprise transfer from VfL Wolfsburg to The Royal Blues at the end of the campaign but he revealed that the move was long overdue.
"It was all very fast. At the time I'd been in discussions with Wolfsburg for a while but for one reason or another we'd never reached an agreement," he told the Bundesliga website.
"When [Schalke sporting director] Mr. Heidel got in touch and told me what he thinks of me and what role he envisaged for me, I was enthusiastic about it right away.
"For me moving to Schalke is another big, new challenge that I'm really looking forward to.
"Schalke have played in the Champions League seven times in the last ten years and being in the mix at the top has to be the aim, alongside Bayern, Dortmund, Gladbach and Leverkusen, who all want to be in the Champions League too."
Despite playing his trade in the Bundesliga since 2005 with Werder Bremen and more recently Wolfsburg, the former Brazil international admits he's never experienced the kind of passion the Schalke fans have shown in his brief stay thus far.
"I've never experienced so many fans coming to watch training. I can hardly wait for our first home game of the season, on Matchday 2 against Bayern. We'll have 62,000 fans behind us, which is amazing," he added.
