Rumour rating: United confident on Pogba, Van Persie wants EPL return

The transfer window is hotting up and we’ve wrapped up and rated the latest offerings from the rumour mill…

Sane to Manchester City (The Sun)

Manchester City’s chances of signing Leroy Sane from FC Schalke 04 have been given a boost with the news that FC Bayern München are not interested in making a move for the 20-year-old.

Sane’s father said at the start of the week that a switch to either Bayern or Real Madrid would be his son’s preference, but with neither club in the market for the player a move to the Etihad seems more likely.

Schalke are resigned to the fact that Sane will leave the club, and the £42million asking price won’t be an issue for City.

Rumour rating: 8/10. Guardiola is a fan of Sane and if he wants his man he’ll get him.

Sissoko to Arsenal (The Sun)

Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko could be in line for a move to Arsenal after confirming he wants to leave Newcastle but remain in England.

The Frenchman impressed at Euro 2016 and not surprisingly has no desire to play in England’s second tier following the Magpies’ relegation. Newcastle will not consider letting the midfielder leave unless they are offered £35m.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Borussia Dortmund, Hamburg, Juventus and Napoli are all reportedly interested in acquiring Sissoko’s services.

The Gunners released Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini, and Tomas Rosicky at the end of last season, so further reinforcements wouldn’t do any harm.

Rumour rating: 6/10. Sissoko is definitely leaving Newcastle, but a move to Arsenal is less certain.

Van Persie to Stoke or Middlesbrough (The Mirror)

Robin van Persie is reportedly keen to ditch Turkish outfit Fenerbahce in favour of a return to the Premier League. West Ham have already passed on an offer of the 32-year-old’s services, but Stoke and Middlesbrough are believed to be considering the prospect.

Potters boss Mark Hughes has set his sights on signing West Brom striker Saido Berahino, but should he not be able to agree a deal with the England international then a move for Van Persie may be on the cards.

Boro have already signed ex-Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo from Valencia, and adding Van Persie would add further experience to the squad as the North East outfit look to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

Rumour rating: 5/10. Van Persie may well be on the move, but we’re not convinced it will be back to the Premier League. Berahino looks a better fit for Stoke and the former Manchester United man’s wage demands might be too high for Boro.

Pogba to Manchester United (The Daily Mail)

It’s the rumour that just won’t go away. According to the Daily Mail, United are closing in on a record-breaking deal that will in the end far surpass the £85m Tottenham received for Gareth Bale.

United boss Jose Mourinho will need to ditch a few players to make room for Pogba, but the Portuguese is believed to be open to the idea of letting Juan Mata, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Morgan Schneiderlin depart Old Trafford.

Juventus are determined to hold onto the 23-year-old, but United are reportedly growing more and more confident that they will be able to bring the France international back to Manchester.

Rumour rating: 8/10. It didn’t seem like it would happen, but more and more Pogba to United seems likely.
