Mumbai, Kolkata dominating Premier Futsal

After a hugely entertaining day at the 2016 Premier Futsal competition, Mumbai and Kolkata find themselves at the top of Group A and Group B respectively.

The competition is now at it’s midpoint and there has been sparkling stuff on display. Tuesday was no different.

Ryan Giggs’ Mumbai sit pretty at the top of Group A with four points from three matches. On Tuesday the Welshman scored his first goal of the competition as he led his side to a fine 4-3 victory over Falcão’s Chennai, who occupy third spot in Group A with just one point from three matches. Míchel Salgado’s Kochi are second in the group with three points from two games. They did not feature on Tuesday.

In Group B, Ronaldhino’s Goa drew 2-2 with Hernán Crespo’s Kolkata. The hosts staged a third-quarter comeback to earn a result at the Peddem Sports Complex. However, it was not enough to remove Kolkata from the group’s summit. They have four points from three games while Goa have three points from three games. Paul Scholes’s Bengaluru are last in the group with just one point from three games. They too did not feature on Tuesday.

Wednesday sees Mumbai meet with Kochi in Group A and Kolkata lock horns with Bengaluru in Group B.

Each team plays each other twice in the group stages. Thereafter, the top-two from each group progress to a semi-final. The winner of the two semi-finals will meet in the competition’s final on 24 July in Goa.
