Metz left-back Matthieu Udol will have to wait another six months for his Ligue 1 debut after suffering a knee ligament injury on Saturday.
The 20-year-old broke into the first team during the second half of last season, having spent the first six months on loan at Seraing United in the Belgian second division.
Udol went on to help Les Grenats gain promotion back to the French top flight on his return and was looking forward to making his bow against the best the league had to offer next month.
But the youngster will miss the start of the new campaign after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a pre-season friendly against Seraing.
The Lorraine outfit confirmed the news on their official website, stating that Udol is expected to be ruled out for roughly six months as he begins the long road to recovery.
