Contrary to recent reports, Schalke winger Leroy Sane has not submitted a transfer request, according to club’s sporting director, Christian Heidel.
New Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is known to be a keen admirer of Sane from when the he coached Bayern Munich and rumours have begun to surface that he is looking to add the Germany international to his squad at the Etihad Stadium.
Some have even gone as far as to suggest that Sane has demanded a transfer in order to be allowed to talk to City, but Heidel insists this is far from the truth.
“Leroy has not told us that he wants to leave Schalke for now,” Heidel told Bild. “If that were to happen, interested clubs could approach us to discuss a move.”
Heidel was at pains to stress that if the 20-year-old were to leave the Veltins-Arena it would be expressly on the club’s terms.
“If Leroy wants a transfer, we will make a quick decision on what happens. I want to emphasise it is our decision,” he explained. “It is important that our plans for 2016/17 are not affected by it.
