AC Milan full-back Ignazio Abate is adamant the club cannot suffer another disappointing season as they seek to reclaim their status as one of Italy’s top teams.
The Rossoneri have failed to secure any form of European football for the last three seasons having finished eighth, 10th and seventh respectively.
Milan are still considered one of the great Italian sides because of their history, and Abate reveals everyone at the club is determined to restore them to their former glory.
“I think everyone needs to be willing,” Abate told Milan TV. “They’re all showing that in the early days of the training camp. We’re all coming off three negative seasons. This isn’t the time for declarations, this is the time to work and put gas in the tank.
“We know the coach prefers a game based on ball possession, but the most important thing has to be cutting edge and desire.
“All of us must have the ambition to have a great season, because we can’t stay outside of Europe for another season. We can’t rule out any target, we have to grow in self-belief and believe we can fight for the top.
“We’re starting to work on tactics and ideas of play, initially it’s more of a focus on the physical aspect.
“Like everyone I hope it’ll be a different season, we’ve suffered so much with these seasons where we’re not at the top. We all have to look ourselves in the mirror and try to find a solution.”
