Bayern Munich were in great form as they dispatched AC Milan 3-0 at the Allianz Arena to book their place in the Audi Cup final with Real Madrid on Wednesday.
Bayern 3 Milan 0
Bernat gave Bayern the lead
Gotze grabbed a second
Lewandowski smashed home late on
Bayern through to the final
Bayern dominated the first-half and could have been at least four up in truth, though some good fortune and some decent goalkeeping restricted the hosts to one goal.
Juan Bernat gave Bayern the lead with a lucky deflected strike as the Bavarians finally got the breakthrough after some sustained pressure.
Mario Gotze then doubled the Bavarians' lead, before Robert Lewandowski made it 3-0 with a great strike to complete the rout over the Rossoneri.
Douglas Costa was afforded the first real chance of the match from a set-piece after Keisuke Honda brought down Arturo Vidal on the edge of the penalty area, but the new man watched his effort fly just over the bar.
With both sides not creating any noteworthy chances early on, it took until the 24th minute for the breakthrough to arrive and it was the visitors getting it through an unlikely source as Bernat's cross was deflected past a helpless Diego Lopez.
Moments later, Bernat nearly made it two as his improvised effort off his chest crashed into the bar following Douglas Costa's excellent drilled cross to the far-post.
New-signing Costa was proving his quality as he forced a decent save from Lopez only to push his effort from the rebound just over the crossbar.
Milan were seriously up against it in the first stanza as Vidal nearly made it two with a towering header that cannoned out of the bar for a goal-kick.
Bayern were nearly two up just two minutes into the second-half as Robben skipped past his marker to feed Lewandowski who fired wide and was flagged offside.
Moments later Milan created their best chance of the match as Carlos Bacca fired inches past the left hand upright after some good work by Honda down the right wing.
Just after the hour mark and some heroic defending from Cristian Zapata somehow kept the deficit at one as his crucial intervention prevented Costa's cross from reaching a lurking Lewandowski at the far post.
Gotze doubled the hosts’ lead with a cool finish into the bottom corner after picking up a loose ball in the area.
Lewandowski then made it three with an unstoppable strike past Lopez sand into the top corner to complete a solid performance and send the Bavarians into the final against Real Madrid.
