South Korea hold Japan

South Korea held Japan to a 1-1 draw in their EAFF Asian Cup match on Wednesday evening at the Wuhan Sports Centre Stadium in China.

South Korea were fortunate to be awarded a penalty in the 27th minute of the game when Minwoo Kim miscued a header that hit his Japanese captain Masato Morishige's arm.

Midfielder Hyunso Jang was trusted with the spot kick, which he drilled into the bottom left corner as Japanese stopper Shusaku Nishikawa went right.

Japan came out firing after the goal and were finally rewarded for their efforts 12 minutes later, when Hotaru Yamaguchi scored a screamer from 30 yards out.

The midfielder collected the ball from Shu Kurata and found himself in space outside the box. Yamaguchi's right boot connected and the ball whizzed past the left hand upright and into the back of the net.

Neither team was able to gain any ascendency in the second stanza, with the scores remaining locked.
