De Bruyne won’t rule out City switch

Wolfsburg midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has hinted that he may leave the Bundesliga club within the next two weeks to join Manchester City.

City have been tracking De Bruyne for months, and could soon land the Belgium international despite Wolfsburg's reluctance to sell him.

The Citizens are believed to be readying £40 million bid for the 23-year-old, but Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs insists it is "99.9 percent certain" that De Bruyne will not be heading to the Etihad Stadium.

However, following an awards ceremony on Thursday, where De Bruyne was named Germany's Footballer of the Year, De Bruyne dropped a strong hint that he may not be donning the Wolfsburg jersey this coming season.

"I'm not one who says that I'm staying here – and in two weeks I'm off," De Bruyne, who scored 10 goals and recorded 20 assists in the Bundesliga last season, told reporters. "You have to be a bit open, the more I think that people know how I am I'm just trying to be honest…

"If in the end it happens, you cannot say that I would have lied. That's just football, but I know of course that it is not easy for the fans.

"Here everything is going well for me currently. But I also know that a lot of reports about me in the media. For me it is just important that I am fit in one or two weeks, when it really starts."
