Bayern Munich skipper Phillip Lahm believes Mario Gotze is a key player for the club, despite rumours that he may leave the Allianz Arena.
The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move abroad this off-season following a difficult first campaign at the club, with Juventus keen on his services.
Gotze and his agent have also both admitted that there is the possibility of him securing a transfer away from the Bavarian outfit.
There has also been speculation that a breakdown in the player's relationship with manager Pep Guardiola has caused the Germany international to evaluate his options.
However, despite all the talk of an exit, Lahm believes Gotze has what it takes to succeed at Bayern and cannot understand why he's being linked with a move.
"I do not understand the rumours," he told tz. "He is an outstanding footballer and totally integrated with us."
