Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic says that his countryman Edin Dzeko is excited about his imminent move from Manchester City to the Italian capital.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international striker is close to joining the Giallorossi, where he will link up with his international teammate to help last season's Serie A runners-up challenge Juventus for the title.
"Dzeko was very motivated about coming here and can't wait to play with us," Pjanic told Roma TV. "He is so happy and will give us a big hand this season.
"If you want to compete at the top level and get closer to Juventus, then you need great players. Competition for places is purely positive, as we are in so many different tournaments."
Roma are set to kick-off the 2015/16 Serie A season away against Hellas Verona on Saturday the 22nd, and are looking sharp ahead of the opener after beating Valencia 3-1 in a friendly on Saturday.
"You could tell we were physically stronger than in recent outings and we wanted to rediscover that style of football we had lost over the last six months," Pjanic added.
"We ran some risks and tried to play our game, doing it well. Of course we can do better, but I think the match was very positive against a tough opponent. We recaptured that feeling and the team had fun on the field."
