Schalke manager Andre Breitenreiter is asking his players for an aggressive Bundesliga opener against Werder Bremen as he aims to get his first points in the bag.
Die Konigsblauen start the new league season at Weserstadion on Saturday, when they will look to build on their 5-0 win over MSV Duisburg in the DFB-Pokal with a result against much stronger opposition.
"The commanding win has given us self-confidence," Breitenreiter told his club's official website. "That was very gratifying considering what happened in the last six months when a lot didn't go well for the team.
"We are expecting a completely different game in Bremen. Both teams want to win their opening fixture. We are well prepared, but so is our opponent.
"We'd like to take an offensive approach into the game against Werder and show a lot of heart and passion," he said, before adding that they 'have to remain compact'.
"Bremen play a challenging diamond system in midfield. We are prepared for that, so we're going to Bremen to win points – and preferably all three!"
