Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez is looking to fill the boots of departed centre-back Miranda, but is glad that Diego Godin is still alongside him.
A number of important players have departed Vicente Calderon during the current transfer window, including Brazil international Miranda, who made more than 100 La Liga appearances for Atleti before joining Inter Milan.
"With Miranda leaving it is possible I will have more chances to play," Gimenez told AS. "I'll have a lot of responsibility and I'll fight to give the best of myself and help the team."
One player who decided to stay with Atleti, despite reported interest from other clubs, is centre-back Godin, Gimenez's international team-mate for Uruguay and something of a mentor for the 20-year-old.
"For me it's better that Diego stayed so that I can keep growing as a player alongside him," the Uruguay international added.
"He helps me out a lot. He's an incredible player who helps me to develop in the personal sense as well. What he has done for the club has made him a favourite with the fans."
Los Rojiblancos start their La Liga campaign at home against Las Palmas next Saturday, after a club friendly against Cadiz on Friday.
