West Ham centre-back Angelo Ogbonna has revealed that manager Slaven Bilic convinced him to move to east London, and is excited to be a part of the Croatian's "project".
The 27-year-old Italy international joined the Hammers from Juventus during the current transfer window, moving to Upton Park despite reported interest from elsewhere and bringing his experience of almost 200 Serie A matches with him.
"I talked with the boss and he explained to me what he wants to do with this club," the former Torino star said. "The manager sold me the story and I feel it is better for my career to come to West Ham now."
The Serie A winner would have been happy with his decision when his Premier League debut against Arsenal ended in a surprise 2-0 win to start the campaign on a positive note.
"We are happy to start like this and now we hope to build on this," he added. "It was only the first match, so we are looking forward and not just thinking about what we did against Arsenal.
"We knew it was a difficult game but there are a lot of difficult games, so we have to now concentrate on the next one and take things step by step."
That next step for the Hammers is their first home game of the season against Leicester City on Saturday.
