Athletic Bilbao striker Aritz Aduriz has called the Supercopa de Espana win over Barcelona one of the happiest moments in his life after he played a starring role in the success.
Athletic headed to Camp Nou for the second leg of the tie with a healthy 4-0 advantage from the earlier clash at San Mames, where Aduriz followed Mikel San Jose's wondergoal with a hat-trick against the Catalans.
The 34-year-old Spain and Basque Country international also struck in the second leg to cancel out Lionel Messi's effort, making it 1-1 on the night and 4-1 to Los Leones.
"If you wrote a script it would be impossible for it to go this well," he said, quoted by Marca. "Winning a trophy is the greatest thing that can happen and even more so against Barcelona.
"It's incredibly satisfying to win a trophy with Athletic. It's the best we can hope for. We have something special that makes us strong. It's amazing.
"The happiest day of my life was the birth of my daughter but apart from that, today is the happiest day."
Athletic have a chance to repeat their heroics against the treble-winners as they face Barca in their first match of the new La Liga season at San Mames on Sunday.
