Blues ‘fail with third Stones bid’

Chelsea are believed to have seen a third bid for highly-rated defender John Stones knocked back by Premier League rivals Everton this week.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for more defensive options to provide competition for veteran skipper John Terry, Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma.

The Premier League champions have already failed with two previous bids of £20m and £25m for Stones, who has steadily impressed for the Toffees during his first two seasons at the club.

And their most recent offer of £30m has been given the same treatment by the Merseysiders, whose manager Roberto Martinez stressed last week that the England international will not be sold.
