Baggies pleased with Leko progress

West Brom head of recruitment Nick Hammond believes Jonathan Leko will be become a key player fir the first team.

The teenager debuted during the latter stages of the campaign for Tony Pulis side and made an immediate impression with his pace and direct running against established Premier League defences.

Hammond claims the level of performances from Leko has been enough to suggest he'll become an integral part of the Baggies' future, despite only making five senior appearances last term.

Following the release of Stephane Sessegnon, it remains to be seen whether Pulis will put his trust in the 17-year-old academy graduate or look for a replacement during the upcoming transfer window.

"The wide area is somewhere we're looking to add to, but the emergence of Leko is a really big bonus," Hammond told the club's official website.

"The great thing about the summer break is that you go away and you come back and there's always a player that hits you between the eyes.

"Be it a young player, or a player who hasn't featured as much one season and comes back and all of a sudden he hits the ground running and steps up to the plate. I always look forward to that because it happens on a fairly regular basis."
